Is a Westie Right for Me and my Family?

Westies are beautiful, wonderful and loving companions but they are not the right breed for everyone.  To acquire a total understanding of the day-to-day rewards and challenges of living with a Westie, we recommend the following:

·         Visit the Westie Club of America website and complete the Westie Profiler.

·         Read one or more of the many books on the West Highland White Terrier. Some of them are:

o   Westies from Head to Tail by Ruth Faherty

o   The New West Highland White Terrier by Daphne S. Gentry

o   West Highland White Terriers by Martin Weil

·         Research the history of the breed to understand the westie personality.

·         Read the “breed standard” at www.akc.org/breeds/west_highland_white_terrier/index.cfm

·       Talk to people who have Westies, including breeders and pet owners.

Please complete this research and make this determination before submitting your application to adopt a rescued westie.
